Time Alone with God
Spending time with God may be new for you. At our conference, there will be many opportunities to engage with Him. Our desire is that you will find time to personally encounter Jesus Christ through God’s Word.
We pray that God meets and impacts you in a unique way during this conference. We have put the following pages together for you to use in your study. These devotions will hopefully help you spend fruitful, quality time with the One who created you to know Him better as you see His Son in the pages of His Word.
Day 1: Friday, December 29th
If someone asks you who God is what comes to mind? What is a Christian?
Titus 3:3-7
3 For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. 4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Does this passage confirm that God saved us because we are good people doing all the right things? Why is this important?
What do you learn about God's character in verses 4 & 5?
Through whom is the saving done for us to have a relationship with God? (verse 6)
What do we receive? (verse 7)
Day 2: Saturday, December 30th
I John 1:5-10
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Is it important that we are cleansed from our sins? Why? (verse 7)
What do you think John means when he says “walk in darkness”? Because God is light, why does it make sense that God cannot have fellowship with us if we walk in darkness? (verse 5&6)
According to John can anyone say they have not sinned or do not sin?
What are two promises from the Scriptures if we confess our sins to God? (verse 9)
Day 3: Sunday, December 31st
Acts 2:42-47
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
We are saved not by works but by Jesus. If not for salvation what are the benefits of being devoted to Jesus and living a “Christian” life?
What are practical ways you can pursue a relationship with Jesus and other Christians?
In this passage Christians were extremely generous and gave their time, money, and talents sacrificially. What was their attitude as they lived this way? Were they angry, fearful, nervous, etc? (verses 46&47) What was maybe the biggest gift God gave them? (verse 47)
